Sharon, I’m so sorry you had to write this and I’m so very glad you did… and I wish I could say you or any other black person were safe in America. It’s just not true and I cringe to say so. And to think in this day and age you and your friends were turned down at a restaurant in New York! Or that you have good reason to think your very excellent writing is turned down because you’re black!

Unfortunately I totally believe you and I wish I knew how to change it. I try to stay in touch with my white privilege which I experience every day. All I know to do is that and to talk about it, particularly with my white friends… a virtual hug to you and again, thanks for speaking out.
